But in the meantime, I’m sharing with you some of my secrets to creating a successful content strategy for your blog. As we’ve been going through the series, I’ve helped you revamp your current content, figure out why you’re strategy never goes as planned, and now I want to show you behind the scenes of making sure your content strategy is super duper successful.
Sounds awesome right? Good, because it is. After reading this post, you’ll be a content strategy creatin’ wiz.
P.S. Don’t forget to download this free workbook to help you create that bangin’ content strategy. It will seriously walk you through everything from A to Z.
Secret #1: Get Inside Your Audience’s Head
This one is key. If you want to make sure your content strategy is really on point, you need to know that your audience will love it.
And to do that, you need to know what they’re thinking. But how do you do that?
Good news, it’s not that difficult.
One way to get inside their heads is to find out what they’re complaining about. What is it that they’re struggling with that you can help them move past?
Find some of your ideal clients and check them out. Look at their social media profiles or see what Facebook groups they’re in. And then look at what they’re talking about.
Do they seem to always be coming back to one specific problem? Is it something that you know about and can help them with? Awesome!
Your ideal client should be the driving force behind all of your content. So make sure that whatever you create is going to be something they really relate to.
Secret #2:Make it Actionable
Theories and strategies are nice and all, but that’s not really what people what.
People want you to sit them down and say, “Do this exactly and things will be ok.”
They want tangible, actionable steps that they can do that will get them closer to where they want to be. So that’s what you have to give them.
When creating your blog content and content strategy, really think about how you can make it actionable. Instead of just writing a blog post on imposter syndrome, give them 5 ways to cope with imposter syndrome.
That’s the kind of content that people will keep coming back for. And that’s the kind of stuff people want to share with all their biz friends.
Look at your content strategy and make sure that it is full of tangible action steps that your audience can take.
Secret #3: Ask yourself some questions
Whenever you come up with a new idea that you want to include in your content strategy, as yourself these 3 questions:
- Is this topic valuable?
- Am I providing in depth content?
- Is this something your audience will enjoy?
If you can answer those questions with a “yes” then you’re good to go and you should include it. But if you aren’t sure or if it’s a “no” than stop what you’re doing.
Don’t even consider putting something into your content strategy if it doesn’t pass those 3 questions. If you focus your content on providing value and catering to your audience, it’s sure to pass the test.
Secret #4: Clearly define your goals
Make sure you know why you’re creating every single piece of content. There should always be a greater purpose behind it than to simply put out content.
Define what goals you have for your content. What do you want to happen as a result of someone reading it?
Maybe you want people to join your email list. Or maybe you want them to buy your services. Whatever the reason is, make sure that your content is geared towards that.
And in order to do that, you need to have strong Call to Actions (CTAs). This is essentially where you are telling your audience what action you want them to take.
So if it’s signing up for your email list, tell them to do that. And make sure that your CTA is clear throughout the entire piece of content. Having more than 1 CTA per blog posts isn’t as effective.
Like we talked about in the last post, your content strategy is never going to be 100% fail-proof. And you’re probably not going to stick to it all the time.
That’s ok, but it doesn’t mean that you don’t need to have a strong strategy in place if you want to make it successful. By implementing these little secrets when creating your content strategy, you will be setting yourself up for so much success.
