A lot of people have been talking about mastermind groups lately. I knew I wanted to join one for a while but taking the leap and paying for one seemed like a big step.
So I joined a “free” mastermind group, aka some people I found in a Facebook group that also wanted to be in a mastermind group.
It started off well enough and everyone was excited and engaged. But as time went on the group began to fizzle out. The accountability wasn’t there, and people weren’t very invested in showing up for others.
That’s when I knew that taking the plunge and paying for a group would be so much more beneficial. I joined my mastermind group in April of this year and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made for my business so far.
I was thrilled when my friend Nevica wanted to share with my audience about why you should consider joining your own mastermind group.
In today’s guest post, she’s going to give you her top 7 reasons for joining a mastermind group and give you a better sense of whether it’s right for you or not.
Let’s turn it over to Nevica:
If you clicked on this post it’s probably because you know what a mastermind group is and are just a bit more curious about how it can actually help you and your business.
But just in case you don’t yet know or was at some point misinformed about what a mastermind group is I wanted to share two definitions with you:
Napoleon Hill’s (creator of the “mastermind group concept”) Mastermind Group Definition
“The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony.”
Nevica’s Mastermind Group Definition
“A group of people who get together on a consistent basis to offer support, feedback, and new ideas, that will help you progress from where you currently are.”
If you’re a business owner, you shouldn’t have to feel alone, you should have a group of people who you can turn to for support, advice, and feedback.
I believe starting or joining a mastermind group is essential to your growth as a business owner, but if you aren’t convinced just yet, check out some of the other major benefits of being in a mastermind group.
The number one reason that I personally started a mastermind group was because I was lonely. When you set up or join a group these are people who you’re going to be meeting with on a consistent basis.
You’re going to get to know them and they’re going to get to know you. You’ll most likely naturally start to look out for each other, support each other, and care about each other’s well being in and out of business.
This has been my favorite part of being in a mastermind!
One of the pros to being a business owner is that there’s no one to tell you what to do! You get to make your own schedule, deadlines, and priorities.
While this is awesome for many of us it means putting our business or our priorities last on the list which makes it hard for things to get done.
When you’re part of a mastermind group you can ask them to hold you accountable for your goals. They’ll check in with you and expect to hear and see that you’ve completed what you’ve set out to do.
No one wants to show up to a meeting saying they didn’t get something done, so you’ll get it done!
Have you ever had a problem or an idea and thought “there’s no other possible way to get this done”?
You might spend days in your own head thinking about it, and either decide to just quit or make a decision you don’t like. Then you finally tell someone else about it and they come up with a better answer in seconds.
As business owners, we spend so much time in our own heads that things get foggy. When you allow other people inside your business, people who understand you and your business, they can see things you can’t because they’re not in it.
They can help spark a new idea that changes your course of direction entirely (for the better).
Similar to brainstorming, when you have a new idea or a big decision to make, when you work alone you usually don’t ask anyone else what they think before you execute.
Which can be great because we get things done quickly, but it can also be detrimental.
When there’s only you making decisions your decision or opinion may be off or wrong – and you may not figure that out until it’s too late.
With a mastermind group, you’ll be able to chat with a smart group of people who understand your business, you, and your customers and can help you see the pros and cons of your decision making.
Having your own business is HARD. Everything is dependent on you, if something goes right it’s because of you, if something goes wrong it’s because of you.
There’s a lot of responsibility and pressure that comes with being a business owner and if you don’t own a business you can’t understand that.
If you have a mastermind group of other business owners they’ll understand you when everything is going wrong, they’ll know how to support you so that you don’t give up.
This support is an essential part of staying strong and positive as a business owner.
Just by listening to the people in your mastermind speak you’ll learn something new! Everyone has different skills and experiences that you can learn from and hearing people talk through their struggles or wins will teach you something.
You can also have dedicated “learning days” in your mastermind where instead of a regular hot seat agenda someone teaches the group a new skill.
So expect lots of learning, which is always a benefit as a business owner!
When you’re surrounded by people who are smart, talented and doing amazing things in this world – it starts to rub off on you! You start to look at what you’re doing and wonder if you’re dreaming big enough.
You get inspired by what others are creating, and realize if they can do things – so can you! Being in a mastermind group has allowed me to dream bigger while also setting and reaching bigger goals!
So, I don’t know about you, but being in a mastermind group sounds pretty amazing to me! The best part is that you don’t have to wait to be invited into one, you can start your own group!
